{"id":10,"date":"2005-09-13T22:31:43","date_gmt":"2005-09-14T02:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/46.19.32.152\/blog\/?p=10"},"modified":"2006-08-17T09:47:35","modified_gmt":"2006-08-17T13:47:35","slug":"fedora-core-5-wishlist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fitzsim.org\/blog\/?p=10","title":{"rendered":"Fedora Core 5 Wishlist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nHere&#8217;s my categorized list of goals for Fedora Core 5.\n<\/p>\n<p><strong>java-gcj-compat<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nGNU Crypto fix for <a href=\"https:\/\/bugzilla.redhat.com\/bugzilla\/show_bug.cgi?id=146782\">Eclipse extssh support<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nCasey Marshall has already committed a Diffie-Hellman JCE provider to GNU Classpath so this is just a matter of testing.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nimport all JAWT fixes<\/p>\n<p>\nAll the necessary patches are already in GNU Classpath and libgcj.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nJessie merged into GNU Classpath\n<\/li>\n<li>\nGNU Crypto core algorithms merged into GNU Classpath\n<\/li>\n<li>\ngjdoc merged into GNU Classpath enabling &#8230;\n<\/li>\n<li>\nan <code>--enable-javadocs<\/code> option to libgcj\n<\/li>\n<li>\nmake gcjx java-gcj-compat&#8217;s javac commands<\/p>\n<p>\nNot sure if this one is doable in time; I don&#8217;t mean full gcjx, just the bytecode-compiler portion in a standalone executable.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\ninclude Tritonus or some other sound implementation\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>AWT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nImageMagick backend for ImageIO\n<\/li>\n<li>\nGraphics\/Imaging refactoring for GTK 2.8 and Cairo\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/megamek.sourceforge.net\">MegaMek<\/a> packages in Fedora Extras<\/p>\n<p>\nThis just involves a few AWT bug fixes now.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\nfix all 1.5 japi issues in java.awt.* packages\n<\/li>\n<li>\nfix all 1.5 japi issues in javax.imageio.* packages\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Swing<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nRHDB tools in Fedora Extras: <a href=\"http:\/\/sources.redhat.com\/rhdb\/administrator.html\">Administrator<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/sources.redhat.com\/rhdb\/visualexplain.html\">Visual Explain<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/sources.redhat.com\/rhdb\/controlcenter.html\">Control Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\nThis will require updating these tools to support PostgreSQL 8.0.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.limewire.org\">Limewire<\/a> in Fedora Extras<\/p>\n<p>\nIt would be absolutely awesome to have this Swing app working on the free stack but I&#8217;m not sure it&#8217;s doable in the FC5 time frame.  Would anyone like to undertake it?\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SWT<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/azureus.sourceforge.net\">Azureus<\/a> in Fedora Extras<\/p>\n<p>\nAgain, not sure if this is doable before FC5 but this would be awesome to have.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>gcjwebplugin<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\nimplement and test security features in GNU Classpath to allow running untrusted bytecode<\/p>\n<p>\nIt&#8217;s very unlikely that this one will be finished before FC5 but I&#8217;d like to at least have started the implementation by then.\n<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\nI&#8217;m hoping this list will inspire some volunteers, especially for the big apps and GNU Classpath&#8217;s security framework.
